Handball is the world’s most beautiful form of people in movement. It’s a sport as simple as complicated. Six players on each side of a 40 meter long field, one guarding the goal and a ball drenched in glue. Handball is all about getting passed the other men. Everyone with the same goal, no one with the intention of letting you pass. Make a pass, run, catch, bounce and shoot! Rather sacrifice your life than let a ball or a player pass you!
Our proud national handball team is right now in Germany, playing the Super Cup. All who wears the Swedish shirt are professional athletes that every day practise the noble martial art of handball. Also they have other more artistic ambitions.
I’m the national handball team’s recreation leader with the task of enjoy and disturb in the time during practise and game. My task’s only purpose is making something else than usual during sports dates. This time the national players are gathered in a photo competition. You are the judge. There are seven positions in handball. Each position forms one artist collective. Each collective has sent in a picture. The picture’s purpose is to portray ”We have the power to win”. The interpretation scope is unlimited. Only ability, fantasy and courage set the limits. The contest’s theme of power and winning is taken from a quotation from the song ”Uprising” by MUSE – ”They will not control us. We will be victorious”. In clean handball language that would be ”Keep tight backwards and the goals will keep coming forward” but we’ll stick to the artistic language – ”We have the power to win”. All players got a sample of MUSE’s latest album ”The Resistance” in connection with being picked for the Super Cup, in order to listen in on it before the artistic shot was fired. As a source reference to the quotation, all models/players wear a shirt with a MUSE print.
There are seven positions in handball, hence there are seven pictures in the photo competition. Six pictures that you will be able to see, the seventh picture is a free interpretation of nothing – a photo not taken is a free photo. The picture our poor eyes can’t catch but hopefully feel, is called ”V6 – From nothing the power is seen”. As you will se the artists have chosen to to present their work in different sizes (i.e. I have no idea how you do to make all pictures the same size). You readers can comment the pictures in anyway you like. Maybe you can’t compete in art since it foremost is about touching peoples hearts and minds. Comment on whatever you want. Think out loud. On Sunday I’ll gather your opinions and present the winner.
